I Sciocci!
A few of our Commedia dell'Arte troupe regulars are born
(clockwise from top left):
Ballerina, Brighella, Cola and
Franceschina
Commedia dell'Arte originated in Italian carnivals and market places in the 16th
century.  The technique utilizes multiple performance skills, intermingling verbal
dialogue with mime, acrobatics, music and dance.  The troupe actors play stock
characters and develop personal
lazzi routines, which are incorporated into
unique scenarios in the form of physical comedy and dramatic actions.  The
actors depend upon practiced improvisational skills and familiarity with troupe
players for successful performance.
