Seven kings met on the field for this desert war Just their finest they would bring, victory ensured And their colors flew high o’er the battle Where their cries rang loud and true But, Herne was to be named the day’s victor There was nothing they could do, nothing more that they could do. And the rain came down, down and the mud ran round.
Seven score of horses came to this battle site Carrying provisions that would comfort through the night But, the morn showed the wagons still laden In the mire stuck like glue And Herne was again the day's victor There was nothing they could do, nothing more that they could do. And the rain came down, down and the mud ran round.
Nobles dressed in finery, out to walk the land Now lay buried in the muck, felled by the earth's command And 'twas there they would stay the duration With their arms and legs a-strewn For, again, Herne would be now the victor There was nothing they could do, nothing more that they could do. And the rain came down, down and the mud ran round.
In the morn when all a-woke to answer nature's call They encountered, then, the greatest horror of them all For the privies were now a disaster And their usefulness was through Thus, the spoils of war for the victor There was nothing they could do, nothing more that they could do. And the rain came down, down and the mud ran round. And the rain came down, down and the mud ran round.
